Mrs. Cynthia G. Marshall
President, AT&T North Carolina
Cynthia G. Marshall is President, AT&T North Carolina, and responsible for the company's regulatory, legislative and community affairs activities in the state. She was previously senior vice president for regulatory and constituency relations for AT&T California. Cynthia has 26 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, joining Pacific Bell in 1981 as a group manager in operator services. Since then she has held a variety of line management and staff positions in the following departments: operations, human resources, network engineering and planning, and regulatory/external affairs.
Nationally, she serves on the Board of Governors of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, and is a vice chair of the National Utilities Diversity Council. She previously served as vice-chair of the California Utilities Diversity Council, a committee of the California Public Utilities Commission.
Within North Carolina, Marshall serves on Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the North Carolina State Chamber, the Board of Trustees of the N.C. Museum of Art, the CEO Advisory Council of the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits, the CEO Forum of the McColl School of Business at Queens University, the Steering Committee of the 2007 Triangle Heart Walk and is a member of The Women’s Forum of North Carolina.
Marshall is committed to advocacy for children in need of adoption or in need of support in foster care situations. She joined the Board of the North Carolina Children’s Home Society in October 2009. In California, she was on Board of Directors of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Contra Costa County and served as a trainer and spokesperson for the Contra Costa County Social Services Department’s Foster Care/Adoption program.
Marshall announced two $100,000 contributions to education advocacy groups in Wake and Mecklenburg counties soon after arriving in North Carolina – within a month of each other. In California, she was instrumental in AT&T contributing approximately $3 million over three years to support the Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement program, an initiative that assists educationally disadvantaged students.
The fourth of six children, Marshall grew up in Richmond, California., and resides in Cary, North Carolina. She is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, where she attained degrees in business administration and human resources management. She is married to Kenneth Marshall. They have two children, Anthony, 15, and Shirley, 12. In her faith community, she enjoys being active with youth programs, including conducting a variety of workshops and seminars and teaching a Sunday School class. A self-professed sports nut and soccer mom, her favorite movie is Brian’s Song. She has a passion for her work, enjoys being busy and loves working for AT&T.
