Since 1995 Dr. Harshaw has brought to the King
Committee the passion and the theological
underpinnings so vitally needed in movements of
conscience.
Dr. Harshaw hails from Pasadena, California and
has received a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from
Point Loma Nazarene College, both the Master of
Divinity and Doctorate of Ministry degrees from the
School of Theology at Claremont, California and
Master of Arts degrees in Theology from Nazarene
College in San Diego. In 1978, he was ordained at
Trinity Baptist Church in Los Angeles through the
National Baptist Convention and the American
Baptist Churches, USA.
Dr. Harshaw is currently pastor of First Baptist
Church in Raleigh an also serves as Chairman of the
Social Action Committee of the Raleigh
Interdemoninational Ministerial Alliance. Dr. Harshaw has
traveled the world extensively by serving as Area
Director for African, Europe and the Middle East
with the American Baptist Churches, USA. In
addition to his pastoral duties at First Baptist,
and his community ministries, he also makes time to
teach as an Adjunct Professor at the Duke
University Divinity School.
In many ways, Harshaw is cut from the same cloth
as Dr. King, both innately learned in Theological
Doctrine and gifted with the ability to preach.
Dr. Harshaw's highest honor is two-fold; husband
and father. He cherishes the time he spends with
his wife, Sharon, and their three children: Dennae,
Dumas III and Shanise.
